Dogs of Europe
Belarus Free Theatre (UK / Belarus), Sergei Newsky (Germany / Russia)
In a unique collaboration, Belarus Free Theatre, world-acclaimed Russian/US journalist and author, Masha Gessen, and Russian/German composer and musician Sergei Newsky will devise a new production inspired by Gessen’s writings on belonging, identity and global politics. As a collaboration between emigrees from the former Soviet Union, the play will reflect on the anti-liberal backlash in western societies and the rising allure of totalitarian politics, from the perspective of those who know what it is to live without freedom. The motivating question is how to waken up western audiences to the looming threat; how to activate them to defend peace and democracy which their predecessors fought so hard for.
